for psychologist mary sherlach and teacher's aide, rachel davino. also services for three children. also 7-year-old grace mcdonnell and olivia engel and dylan hockley. as the town mourns the loss of so many young lives, many residents are coping in their own way. that moment of silence, i thought, was very beautiful and very powerful and sometimes i wonder when people have been through a tragedy, is it helpful to folks who are mourning or is it just another moment that brings it all back? >> i mean, everyone celebrated that moment around the country, but we have been celebrating or having those moments of silence, celebrating is the wrong word. we've been through so many moments of silence in our churches, our synagogues. i've been to countless funerals this week of people who i knew well, people i grew up with. people, my children knew. and there is -- the moments of silence are -- they're deafening. i can't tell you how many we've had. at 9:30 today, there was a moment where we could all connect. all breathe deeply. and also realize it's only been a week. it's felt like a year, frankly. so fe

are calling an accessory to murder. rachel buffet pleaded not guilty she lied to police in 2010. her former fiance, currently awaiting trial for those crimes. and now, buffet is speaking out for the first time about her arrest. abbie boudreau has the story. >> i'm innocent. >> reporter: rachel buffet maintains she was duped by her ex-fiance, dan wozniak. >> it was, like, the person i loved never really existed. >> reporter: but they claim she not only knows the real dan wozniak, is charged with killing two friends, but that she was an accessory, covering up the crime. as he sits in jail on murder charges, she's out on bail. >> it's hard to eat when your stomach is in knots. >> reporter: it all started in the spring of 2010. buffet and wozniak, but community theater actors, were starring in the play, "nine." but police say, on the same day the couple performs in a play, wozniak lured his neighbor, 26-year-old college student, sam herr, who recently returned from a tour in afghanistan, into the theater and shot him. wozniak allegedly then dismembered the body. the motive of the killing, to re

who lost her child. her daughter, rachel, and the columbine shooting. her son survive. beth, thank you for being here. we need your perspective as well today. what are your thoughts as we wonder what the parents are going to? >> well, my first reaction is i'm extremely angry. so angry. angry that a man would kill babies. and these are just little babies. as far as the periscope, they are not going to know what to do for a long time. with the columbine shooting, my son craig survived but rachel did not. it was like there were times when it was real, and other times it wasn't and you kind of block out the pain of that. the anguish of that. or at least a year or possibly more, there were times when i was just going through the motions of having lost rachel. also having to deal with a very emotionally crippled young man, because this gentleman witness all of the violence. and then his sister was the first one that was killed. my heart races. i just feel that these parents -- they are going to hurt so bad for so long and there's there is not much you can do to console them. losing a little

not flinch, they did not hesitate. dawn hochsprung, mary sherlach, vicky soto, lauren russeau, rachel devino and ann marie murphy, they all responded as we all hoped we might respond in such terrifying circumstances, with courage and with love, giving their lives to protect the children in their care. we know that there were other teachers who barricaded them selves inside classrooms and kept steady through it all. and reassured their students by saying, wait for the good guys, they're coming. show me your smile. and we know that good guys came, the first responders who raced to the scene, helping those in harm's way to safety and comfort those in need, holding at bay their own shock and their own trauma because they had a job to do. and others needed them more. and then, there were the scenes of the school children, helping one another, holding each other, dutifully following instructions the way that young children sometimes do. one child even tried to encourage a grownup by saying, i know karate, so, it's okay, i'll lead the way out. as a community, you've inspired us, newtown. in the fac

at sandy hook elementary school. six adults including 29-year-old rachel davino who dressed up in costume and broke out in song to help her students learn. and ann marie murphy whose parents say shield some of her students from the hail of bullets. full-time substitute teacher lauren russo dreamed as a little girl of becoming a teacher, even making a set of dolls her first classroom of students. mary was the school psychologist who for years helped children deal with life's terrible challenges. when the first shots were fired, she and school principal dawn hochsprung quickly headed toward the danger. the two women reportedly lunged at the gunman and died trying to overtake him. there was also 27-year-old teacher vickie lee soto who died trying to protect her students. >> their father, carlos, was up the other night identifying vickie's body and was just told kind of how she was found, protecting her kids, doing instinctively what she knew to do, protecting her children. >> the gunman's mother, nancy lanza, was the first victim last friday, shot by her own son in their own home. and the ki

olivia rose engel, therapist, rachel davino, 7-year-old student, grace gay, and 6-year-old student, christopher dylan jack hockley. they were all remembered today. joining me now is connecticut's democratic senator-elect murphy. congressman murphy, you couldn't listen to wayne lapierre's speech today because you were busy in newtown? >> i was, when he made that statement i was at grace's funeral. and by the time i got to the second funeral of the day that i attended, little dylan hockley's funeral, people there had heard or read the statement, and the whispers through that hall of hundreds were frankly in horror. i can't speak for everybody in newtown. but i think there is a lot of shock and disgust right now in newtown, when they heard that the nra came to the table today and said that the solution for what happened to us in newtown was to have more guns on the streets. to have more guns in our schools. that we don't have enough assault weapons out there to adequately protect us. this was as revolting and as tone-deaf a statement as i have ever seen from any political entity in my

ramsey rachel cruise. nice to see you this morning. >> good to see you too. >> so you have some tips that we can try to avoid breaking the bank because i think if you wait, you drag your feet, you kind of become rash and you end up spending too much. right? >> absolutely. yeah. the key here is to be intentional. so the best thing to do is to be on a budget this holiday season. so make a list of everyone that you are going to buy a gift for. and write a dollar amount next to their name and stick to that. so just be very very intentional. it's where your money is going. >> how do you stop mission creep though? because that happens in our family. we draw up the spreadsheet and say look we are doing one gift per family member. this is what we are doing this year. and suddenly it's two and it's three. how do you stop that from happening? >> yeah, it's a good question. you just have to be intentional again and stick to what the budget says you have to say no matter this is what we are doing. great thing to do is to use cash so you can actually cash out the amount of money that you plan to
